Joanna Tomlinson writes . . . .
Since I started as Director of Music at Headley Parish Church at the beginning of this year, I have been thrilled with the way the choir has taken on new ideas and developed their sound. As a professional singer and singing teacher as well as conductor, the quality of sound the choir produces is very important to me, so we've done lots of work on improving vocal technique.
Choir Practice
Each Thursday choir practice we start with a simple warm up which tries to develop a different element of singing technique such as breathing, articulation, or blending with others in the group. We then learn the notes of the music we are preparing and apply these techniques to what we sing. All this happens in a fun and relaxed way, but to the highest standard we can.
Highlights
Highlights for me so far have been the stunning performance the choir gave of Stainer's
'Crucifixion' on Good Friday, which was truly moving and included small step-
Junior Choir
I am particularly pleased with our
thriving junior choir who have
already started
singing beautifully
together.
Adult Choir
Both adults and juniors sing on Sunday
mornings at the Parish Eucharist at 10am, as
well as special services during the year such as
the carol service in December.
If you or one of your friends or neighbours is interested in singing, this is a great opportunity to be trained and to join a vibrant and welcoming choir. We are particularly keen to hear from men and juniors who are interested in singing but of course all are welcome!
